Identifying a 'Pope' is easy, if you know where to look

Sculptures and Pottery

Ronald Pope usually 'signed' his sculpture and pottery with a Pi symbol:

  • Sculpture - The Pi symbol can often be found stamped into the metal at the base, etched into a stone base, or somewhere on the sculpture itself.  It can be very small - you may need a magnifying glass.

Unfortunately, some sculptures were not signed.

  • Pottery - The Pi symbol can usually be found on the underside.

Paintings were often signed with the letter R followed by the year.  For example:

R 72

the 'R' sometimes having an elongated tail, with the numbers offset.

If in doubt, please contact us.  We can usually identify a 'Pope' from the dozens of photographic images he took, and, of course, his sketches.
